About OBS
The Okanagan Bouldering Society was formed in 2015 with the express purpose of promoting bouldering and area development in the Okanagan valley in an environmentally conscious and socially responsible manner.
We are dedicated to advocating for the continued access to local bouldering areas and building beneficial relationships with the various private and public land owners and management groups.
The OBS can be counted on to act in the best interests of the Okanagan bouldering community and also to promote the ethical and responsible use of all Okanagan bouldering areas including encouraging limited access to sensitive areas.
OBS has over 170 members currently.

Loïc Markley
Loïc started climbing many years ago on the rounded boulders of the Yukon's Ibex valley. After more than a decade as a professional student, he eventually settled down in Kelowna and the Boulderfields became his go-to climbing area. He is a committed boulderer---despite living here for eight years, he has yet to rope up.
Loïc has been a part of the Okanagan Bouldering Society since its inception and has played a key role in many of our initiatives. He has helped organize the annual Rock the Blocs bouldering festival since 2014 and has lobbied to maintain driving access to the Boulderfields. -
Jonty Pearson
Jonty started out sport climbing for the first 6 years of his climbing career, followed by a year of trad, mostly in and around the Squamish area. After moving to the Okanagan in 2018, he switched to bouldering, although he still likes to tie into a rope when he can! Jonty is keen to ensure that the Boulderfields remains accessible to all, given the rising popularity of the area with climbers, hikers and sightseers.

Kayla Chappell
Kayla has always enjoyed sports. Whether skiing, running, hiking, camping, playing volleyball or getting out on the water; being active is where her passion lies. She began bouldering 2 years ago and was fortunate to be instantly immersed in our amazing climbing community through her partner Quentin. Kayla has a strong desire to protect and support continued access and growth of the Kelowna Boulderfields. Her background in Corporate Management and non-profit fundraising has given her excellent communication and organization skills that will be essential to the society in its goals of education and leadership.

Will Barnes
Will started climbing in college over a decade ago in California. At first it was some local sandstone bouldering, but this quickly progressed to trad climbing trips to Joshua Tree and Yosemite whenever he could get out there. After years of mainly trad climbing, he found he enjoyed bouldering more, which ultimately led him to move to the Okanagan in 2016. Now he spend most of his time looking for new zones and developing new boulders. This was a big part of why he wanted to join OBS, with the hopes of helping to improve the access situation to some of the amazing climbing we have here, especially in the South Okanagan.

Mike Greer
Mike started climbing here in the Okanagan Valley over 10 years ago. He started out as a sport climber, moved into big walls, and now has come over to the dark side and enjoys wrestling pebbles just as much. Mike has worked as a climbing coach, has been route setting for over 5 years, is a certified climbing instructor, and is also the Vice President of the Central Okanagan Climbing Association. He has been on the OBS board from the start and believes we all have a role to play in ensuring access to climbing now and in the future remains.

Robson Wong
Robson has been climbing in the Okanagan for 8 years. He learned how to climb in the Boulderfields and considers it his stomping grounds. He started working in climbing gyms right as he got into climbing and has been immersed in the climbing community ever since. After years of limit bouldering in the fields, he was converted to sport climbing and has since been sampling endless classics throughout the valley.
Robson joined the OBS because the boulderfields are a very special place for him and he wishes for other people to experience them as he has. -
Chris Madar
Chris has been climbing for as long as he can remember, but it wasn't until he moved to Norway, after finishing university, that he took up bouldering. In 2022 he moved to the Okanagan and has been getting involved in the climbing community and exploring all the new exciting areas. Professionally, he studied mechanical engineering with mechatronics but is now working as a system architect and software developer. Chris has traveled all over the world to climb, and is excited to get more involved locally in the Okanagan bouldering scene, as well as explore some of the mountaineering opportunities BC has to offer.
